Festivals

With so many different ethnics groups and religions represented in Malaysia we as the people of the country celebrate different festivals in a year. For example, the chinese community just celebrate Chinese New Year. The chinese practice a kind of culture by giving the non-married red packet.

There's a story behind the red packet or also known as "ang pao". It is during the Sung Dynasty in China. In a village called Chang-Chieu was at that time terrorised by a huge demon-like dragon. No one in the village dare to challenge or to fight the demon-like dragon because of its violence towards the villagers. One day, an young orphan armed with a sacred sabre inherited from his ancestor fought the demon-like dragon and he manage to destroy the dragon. Eventually the villagers wanted to thank him for his bravery and boldness to stand up and fight against the dragon and the overjoyed villagers and elders presented him with a red packet filled with money for his courage.
